Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

How can I get the Department of Education to FORGIVE a student loan of almost 40 years? I owe about $6000 dollars that because of low income I am not able to pay or even pay on. I am a senior citizen now of 55 years of age. I there a way because of age that I can have this debt eliminated? THANK YOU for your response.
