Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
In desperate need of advice
Heres my situation. I recently received a summons in the mail about a credit card debt I have. It says I need to file with the clerk of the county court (I dont understand what it means file with them) and that I need to contact the plaintiffs attorney with the number listed below. I called them and basically they said I need to pay the full sum immediately. I dont have that kind of money period. Ive tried to tell them I can work out a 100 a month payment plan but they say it has to be paid in full. Now Im freaking out because I dont know what to do. I was layed off at my previous employment, Ive tried starting my own business and Im honestly stuck. Im doing house cleaning/cooking just for room and board. I honestly dont have a dime to my name and I do not know what to do. Everyone says file for bankruptcy and try to start my life over. Please any help anything. What do I do?

The two questions you ask really can't be answered here. Guiding you through a pending lawsuit we know nothing about is beyond the scope of what can be done here. You need to get a lawyer, and meet the deadlines. Maybe the local county Bar association can help you with finding a lawyer. However, if you owe the money, you may just be delaying the inevitable. As for what you do beyond that, it is something you have to decide. If Bankruptcy is an option, there are probably some lawyers near you who will meet free.

Filing means filing some kind of a response to the lawsuit - answer, motion, etc.
