Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Garnishment of a Bank Account
I just received a letter from my company stating that they must garnishee my wages, effectively immediately. What are the processes for garnishment or seizure of my bank account? Do they have to have a court order for each separate thing (i.e. garnishment of wages and of bank account)?

Re: Garnishment of a Bank Account
Each would be a separate summons, and they could get both at the same time if they chose. The only thing that would generally stop them would be a bankruptcy. If you are considering that, you may want to get a free worksheet at www.glenashman.com and give our office a call if you're in metro Atlanta.
