Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Hospital Requirements

My husband has had some medical problems in the past 12 mos. After insurance has paid, we still owe over $6000. We have been paying $100/month, now hospital is requesting he sign a payment agreement and that $100 is subject to approval and may not be enough. We have all intentions of paying this bill in full, but if for some reason he gets sick & can't work, I won't be able to keep up the $100/mo. Is he required by law to sign anything? They have the payment history of the past 9 months to show that we do pay on time. Should he sign anything or just keep making the payments?

Re: Hospital Requirements

You are likely not required by law to sign the document, but if you do not, you will not be protected by their agreement to accept $100/month (or whatever amount agreed upon). Absent an agreement, they may insist upon full payment or start collection.
