Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
My husband has a judgement filed against him for an old credit card debt. The balance we owed was under $2000.00, but the judgement states the balance is $2751.62 being the principle and $1200.00 in interest. We got behind on our house payment and couldnt afford to make a payment. We tried to make payment arrangements, but they wanted to much. We dont know what to do in this situation. Should we respond to the judgement and make a payment arrangement? I dont want to pay all the interest. It is more than the balance.. Could they garnish his wages for the whole ammount?

Sure they can garnish his wages for the amount of the judgment, plus the interest clock keeps running. The time to negotiate was before they got the judgment. Now, you'll probably need to offer as much as they could get in a garnishment (typically 25% of wages, plus any bank accounts).
If they already have a judgment, you already lost the court case (and it acrues interest) and they can garnishee whenever they want. Get a lawyer and look at your options, which may include bankruptcy.
