Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Intrest and Fees on Judgements
I have a judgement against me from 1999. I made payments for 2 years before I lost my job and stopped paying. I didn't receive anything else from the collection agency until this month. I received a letter stating they were going to garnish my wages. I would like to know if they can add intrest and attorney fees to my original judgement. Thank you

Re: Intrest and Fees on Judgements
Yeah credit card companies can charge any interest rate they want basically and most debt collectors will include interest in their default judgments. Attorney's fees are also common--usually they are calculated at a rate of about 10% of the principal and interest. You might have had a statute of limitations defense, but you probably waived that if you did not answer the complaint.
Re: Intrest and Fees on Judgements
Yes, judgments accrue interest and attorneys fees are also added in many cases.
