Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Judgement awarded against me

My ex-husband and I had a credit card, in my divorce, he was ordered to pay it off. The creditor sued me cause my name was on the account, even tho he was ordered to pay it.I am disabled and on SSI.I have no way of paying this back. The court awarded the creditor a judgement against me. How can I get this judgement reversed or paid off? Please Advise me. thank you very much

Re: Judgement awarded against me

As I am sure your divorce lawyer told you, a divorce settlement does not negate your obligation to a creditor. It merely gave you a right to sue your ex.

It would have been easier and better for you to have dealt with this before the judgment. At this point, the only way to get rid of a judgment against you is to file bankruptcy. If you are in metro Atlanta, and wish to do that, download a worksheet at www.glenashman.com and then call me and I'll be glad to review your situation and see if a bankruptcy makes sense.

Re: Judgement awarded against me

It is irrelevant to the creditor that you got divorced and that your ex-husband is responsible to pay the balance. Of course, you can go after your ex-husband for not adhering the terms of the divorce decree and paying off the balance.
