Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
judgements
I have three judgements against me. I am doing my best to pay them off. I have been unemplayed. I have one car that I owe money on and am paying for each month. My nother has given me a jeep (1993) because my car is broken. Since I have judgements againt me can the law take the jeep that is paid for from me if it is my name. I live in Georgia.

Re: judgements
Any of your creditors could seize the jeep at any time. You may want to look into bankruptcy as a possible option to protect the jeep. Be aware that payments to creditors may prevent you from full use of this remedy, so you should see an attorney to explore all your options. If you're in metro Atlanta, go to www.glenashman.com, get our free worksheet, and contact me for a consultation.
Re: judgements
While it is possible a creditor MAY sieze your jeep sometime, they have to take certain steps to perfect the judgment. Realistically, most creditors will not want to even consider messing with a 1993 vehicle as it would probably bring absolutely nothing to them after expenses of repo and auction sale. If you are paying off your debts, and believe you can get a job pretty soon, that is much better in the long run that bankruptcy. If bankruptcy is an option, there are probably some good lawyers in your area (wherever that is). They all have free worksheets.
