Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

If a lawyer takes you to court for not paying your bill, do you tell the judge the reason why (due to 2 lay-offs, filed bankruptcy, unemployed, hopefully a job is lined up between Oct 1 - Oct 15)

You are free to tell the judge why. However, if you signed a contract to pay the attorney, the question will be "did you pay?" not "why didn't you pay"? I am not a bankruptcy attorney, so I cannot comment on how your bankruptcy may or may not effect your obligation to pay the attorney -- you may consider asking you bankruptcy lawyer about that.

Some attorneys are willing to put you on a payment plan in lieu of suing you, but typically only if you have shown a good faith effort in paying the attorney what he is owed.

Best of luck.******The above is intended for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******

You are free to say any of those things, but none of those help you at all (except if you filed bankruptcy, in which case you shouldn't be answering the case and your bankruptcy lawyer should address that).
