Is it legal for a collection agent to contact your bank and request detailed information regarding the bank account?

They can call and ask. But since a bank can't legally answer them, it doesn't do them any good to ask.

Your financial information is private unless the creditor/collection agency has a judgment against you. A creditor or collector is NOT permitted to contact third-parties to discuss your debt.
They do not need to get financial information about you. They can pull your credit report.
