Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
I lost my home and car due to drug problems with my husband. I'm going through a divorce and have since taken both children (3 and 7) and rebuilt our life. I have substantial credit card debts and have not filed for bankruptcy but have let them lapse for several years now. All initial debts have been turned over to collection agencies. Would it be in my best interest to continue to leave these debts unclaimed or to file for bankruptcy?

There is no way to give you a good answer without seeing your overall finances in detail, but as long as you leave the debts out there, you are at risk of creditors seizing your future earnings, bank accounts and so on, and would have to keep dealing with calls and letters. A bankruptcy could let you get a clean start. I do handle cases in your zip code so feel free to contact me with details.
You need to at least consult with a bankruptcy attorney. Give Mr. Ashman a call.
