Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

I am trying to make payment arrangements with a debt collector to pay a bill I owe and they want me to fill out a promisory note with mine and my spouse's employment information, bank information and want us to sign allowing them to use automated funds transfer. Am I obligated to give them that information? Would a letter with the arrangements we agreed to on phone and listed on the promisory note be acceptable without providing the information they are requesting?

That is a HORRIBLE IDEA. Do NOT do it. I repeat - do NOT do it. You will be making a horrible mistake. See a lawyer NOW.

Signing a new note extends the statute of limitations by six years. Odds are it will include new terms that will also do you harm.

Giving them the added information may allow them to garnishee your paychecks and bank accounts.

Finally, giving them the keys to your bank account creates the possibility they can steal from it.

STOP talking this very sleazy collector and see a lawyer to determine how to best address your debts.
