My mother died with debt, but no assets, or will. How do I handle the debt?

As a general rule, you just walk and do nothing at all with those facts. You should do a lawyer consult just to be safe so you don't overlook anything. The lawyer may suggest a short letter to creditors that there are no assets, will be no probate and that you're not involved.
