Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
My mother received a letter from a collection agency today and when she called regarding the bill, she was told it was for an adult phone service. She was told it was from 2005. We live in Georgia and I was reading online advice about debt collection. What would the SOL on this be? I have a sample letter to use to send to the collection agency and would like to know what my rights are here.

Why do you have any "rights" at all? What do you have to do with the issue? Your post few facts. If your mother owes the debt, her obligation is to pay her debts. The statute of limitations is a defense to lawsuits, not general collection efforts. If it is her debt, and she does not pay, they will likely put it on her credit report for the next 2 years, and they may continue other collection efforts.
The SOL might be anything, and that ONLY applies to lawsuits. Since you didn't say what state the company is based in, there is nio way to know what the SOL might be.
If your mother has collection letters, she should talk to a lawyer to discuss what she should and should not do and should not use a family member who is not a member of the bar and doesn't know that the SOL has nothing to do with collection letters.
