Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Hello,

Last night at 11pm I got a knock at my door from a repossesion agent looking for my moms car. They advised me that my mom told the finance company that I had the car. This is farther from the truth. I live in Georgia and my Mom lives in Michigan. Also my Mom bought a new car and traded the car in question into the dealership. Obviously the issue is with the car dealership not submitting payment to the finance company, but my question is, is it legal what the finance company did concerning me? I am in no way associated with this vehicle and I dont know how they got my information, but the repo man had my ss# on his paperwork! But the kicker is that they never called my phone number! Thanks in advance for your help.

Why would they call and give a warning so the car owner could hide the car? Beyond that, you ask if what the finance company did was legal. We do not know what they did, or who gave them the information. You are asking for a guess.
