Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
What are my options?
After my exwife and I separated, she asked me to get a Best Buy credit card on her behalf since I had a job and credit and she did not. She purchased televisions and vcrs, etc. She said she would pay the bills when they came in. The bills were set up to be sent to her home address. Now many years later, I have realized by checking my credit report, etc. that she never paid and now a collection agency is demanding me to pay over $2,000 for this debt. She not once gave me the bills to pay or notified me of her not paying. I was stupid and always gave her extra money above and beyond alimony and child support. She led me to believe we would get back together. There are also other things on my credit that are in collections that I was unaware of. She basically never gave me my mail plus never paid the Best Buy credit card. What are my rights? I am assuming I have none since the card was in my name only. She has the products however. Can I reposses them from her or sue her for the bill?

Re: What are my options?
Speak to your divorce lawyer from your divorce case. You have only whatever rights were spelled out in that case. If you neglected to ask your lawyer to do that, then it's your bill. If you did, the answer is already in your divorce paperwork (note that even in that case, Best Buy will come after you and your remedies are against her). As a general rule, property and debt settlements are final when the divorce is,and your lawyer can tell you if that is the case here.
