Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
question about collector taking me to court
I moved to Atlanta Georgia about 3 1/2 years ago. I had a hard time finding a job and then I kept getting laid off, therefore I fell way behind in paying a dept to a credit agency in NC. Now they are taking me to court in Dec and I have a few questions. The dept is around 6,000
1. Can they put me in jail.
2. I gave most of my stuff away (I have a roomate now), can they repossese his furniture.
3. Can I give them the option of drafting $100 or so $ out of my checking account a month (I have direct deposit) instead of garnishing my wages.

Re: question about collector taking me to court
No they can't put you in jail. No they can't take other people's property. And NEVER offer to let a creditor draft your checking account; they may loot it without permission.
You may want to look at consumer credit counseling (call CCS of Atlanta) or perhaps bankruptcy (for more info go to www.glenashman.com, print our worksheet, and set an appointment to talk with us).
