Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Responsible for Credit Card Debt?
My soon to be ex husband had an AMEX card that I was an authorized user only. He is now incarcerated & upon my filing for a divorce, I called AMEX & asked if I was responsible and they said No; now a collection agency is calling me daily wanting me to be pay them the total amount in ''installments''. I only spoke with them once & told them it wasn't my debt & they could call him in jail. I don't answer the phone now but am I responsible for the $3700 he has on this account? I work and have a bank account and don't want to be sued/garnished for his debt. What are my responsibilities in this case? I can't pay $3700 and I thought he was only responsible, not me! He is very aggressive when he calls, and they call over & over each day (I know by my Caller ID). Please help me straighten out this mess.

If you are sure you were not a co-signer, send them a drop dead letter (find one at clarkhoward.com)
