statue of limitations on credit card debt

I want to know what the statue of limitations on credit card debt in the state of Georgia. I also want to know what to do about a credit card debt that is not mine.

There's no way to answer the second part of your question (a debt that isn't yours) as you have given no information about what happened.

The statute question is far more complex than you may think. First of all, the state law that controls a credit card debt is not the state where you live or even where the bank is. It is the law stated in the credit card agreement. Most banks use states with very long statutes, and that can be changed by a mere insert in your bill. Many states also mark the statute from the date of default or last payment or some date far more recent than the date you incurred the debt.

In Georgia, depending on the credit card paper work the time period could be 6 years (written contract), 4 years open account, or 20 years (if you signed under seal).
