Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

stop check laws

A check was written by my husbands ex girlfriend and he put a stop check on it as he didn't say it was okay for her to use it. Now the dentist that it was written to is taking him to civil court for payment - if he didn't approve it then he wouldn't get in trouble right? and if he can what is the most trouble he can get into.

Re: stop check laws

Assuming the girlfriend was not a signatory on the account, it would be improper for check to be honored. In other words, if he didn't sign the check, than the dentist office should not have accepted the check. However, there may be other issues of which I am not aware. I would advise you to contact an attorney.

If you would like to discuss any issues further, please feel free to contact my office. My contact information is below. Thank you.
