Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Suing a cosignee

I cosigned a car loan for someone who stopped making payments, and then the car was repossesed, all without my knowledge (they only contacted her), and she never told me, thusly damaging my credit report. Can I sue that person for damaging my credit, and what would I be suing for be called?

Re: Suing a cosignee

You can sue for the amount you have to pay the creditor, if and when they come after you. As for your credit, perhaps you can cobble together a claim but this is essentially what you signed up for and the risk you took by co-signing. You will likely find that the paperwork included no obligation for anyone to contact you about the debt.
