Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Summons for unpaid medical bills

received a summons from an attorneys office w/30 days to respond for an unpaid medical bill. They refused to except payments and want a lump sum. They have added to the bill of($5,300) additional interest in the amount of over $3,400. This bill orginally was over $7,000. I had made payments not only on the hospital bill but also other medical expenses all from the same operation. I had no medical insurance. I was put on payments and then they took me off the payment plan. They wanted payment in full. I told them I was not working and could not afford to pay in full. I heard nothing from the collection agency for some time and then the calls started fr. attorneys office requesting payment in full. What is the statute of limitations for medical bills in Georgia? This bill is exactly from 4 years ago. I found it strange that so much time had passed (over two years) that they had not contacted me at all. And what do I answer to the courts in response to the summons? What are my options?
