Transferring A Car Title

I co-signed on a car note for a friend. I never had use of the vehicle. I recently found out that he is incarcerated and will remain there for several years. I was also told that he has not made any payments in over a year. In order to save my credit, is there a way for me to sell the vehicle without his consent or signature?
