Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Help, unpaid medical bills
Myself and my husband owe a combined amount of 9471.63 in unpaid medical bills. I made payments to the hospital, they still sent the accounts to collections. I made payments to the collections they sent the accounts to an attorney. Now the attorney will not take my monthly payment. They say the lowest amount they can take is 800 a month!! We are a family of 4 my kids are 1 and 2. We live on one income and things are very tight. They say they are going to sue over the money. We are trying to avoid bankrupcy as we are trying to buy our first home, but we dont know what else to do. Do I just send them 50 a month and hope they dont sue me or what? I dont know what to do. Can anyone help??
Thanks
Tasha

Re: Help, unpaid medical bills
Sending small amounts doesn't prevent suit and may just be flushing money down the toilet. Since the unpaid bill does damge to your credit history anyway (in all likelihood) the damage from a bankruptcy may not be much worse, but it may get you out from under the debt where you could eventually buy a home.
Instead of worrying, see a bankruptcy lawyer to discuss all your options. You may want to get our free worksheet at www.glenashmen.com and then meet with us.
