Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

In 2005 I was charged under Georgia's First Offender Act, for Felony Theft By Taking. I have completed 5 years of probation (all sucsessfully completed). Is it possible to join the U S Army with my record? Also, will it effect me getting certain jobs in the world and what should i put down when it ask me if i was ever convicted of any crimes?

These are not criminal law questions, but I'll take a shot. As far as the first question, obviously you ask the Army (or go research their website). We are lawyers, not military recruiters. For the remaining questions, maybe yes (again, we are not your future employers looking t your job app). As far as the application, whatever the question, answer it truthfully. The best way to not get considered (or later fired) is to lie on the app.

First of all you were not charged under the first offender act, you were sentenced under the first offender act, which you requested. The Army will either accept you or not accept you. The Army in 2010 is an army of educated, motivated student athletes that did not have money for college, not the 1965 we need someplace to stick these delinquents other than jail Army. Will your criminal behavior in the past effect whether you will get certian jobs? YES, that was not really a question was it? Will the fact that the girl you are considering marrying has three prostitution arrests, effect your decision to marry her? But they are only arrests, not convictions, and all of the charges were eventually dropped. Let's be for real. The answer to the application question have you ever been convicted of a felony, is NO< I have never been convicted of a felony.
