Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

21 yr old. One misdmnr for pot, Canton, GA 2013. Moved to Ohio. Bench warrant.

Goal: Remove warrant. Schedule court for July, after back in United States from honeymoon. Can I do this w/o attorney?

(An attorney said I'll be arrested, for possibly weeks, if I show up at court, in Georgia, to accomplish this goal myself. He's charging $3200.) (believe judge is Judge Morris, whom has a reputation for "hating pot")

Pay the lawyer. Immigration may detain you based on the warrant anyway so instead of illegally staying a fugitive deal with this now rather that getting jailed on a honeymoon.

Sure you can do it without an attorney. Go turn yourself in, or go and see the judge and get arrested. After you are arrested write to the judge and see IF he will schedule a court date for you. After that is unsuccessful, get your new spouse to retain an attorney to get you out. Good luck

Glenn and Lawrence are absolutely correct

Pay the attorney for the case, have him set up surrender and he can try to get you released out on bond and get a trial date

If you evade any longer, you will sit in Jail for months and not have any real contact with your bride until after your trial (assuming you do not go to prison)

I think being with your new bride her is worth the $3200, don't you - also, she may not be able to afford the trips back and forth to Georgia or staying here in Georgia until you go to trial (or get out of prison)?

Good luck

Ralph
