Aggravated Assault Charges
What are the potential penalties for a 17 year old charged aggravated assault, no prior record, and what actions should I as a parent take to lessen the penalties or prevent this from going to trial?

Depending on the jurisdiction, a diversion program may be available for this offense. Also, Georgia offers a first offender program which results in having adjudication withheld. It may be helpful to have your child enroll in an anger management counseling program prior to the court date and take documentation of that to the prosecutor for consideration.
