Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

I was arrested for Pedestrian Under the Influence. I went to court this morning and the judge was extremely harsh on me. I have one week to turn myself in to serve 30 days in jail, after that 12 months probation, $300 fine, 40 hrs community service, and 90 AA meetings in 90 days. I have no prior alcohol convictions, one prior conviction 6 years ago for fighting. An arrest 2 1/2 years ago for 3 misdemeanors that were dropped. I don't understand why the Judge was so hard on me. Is there anything I can do to not serve 30 days for a P.U.I.???

Asking the day after court is too late. If you had been concerned you would have retained counsel when arrested. Anyone who is arrested needs a lawyer.

And it could have been worse. Depending on the court you could have received up to a year in jail, and $1000 fine plus surcharges.

Next time you get arrested, get a lawyer.
