how or where can I research a specific attorney. I'd like to find out if hes an attorney I can trust.

Go to www.calbar.org. You can look up whether an attorney has been disciplined. You can also go to attorneyratingz.com and look up attorneys. Not every attorney is listed, however. Try calling the local bar association.

Trust no one. Ask lots of questions.
I disagree with attorney Healy in that I am leery of sites where anonymous internet people rate lawyers -- even good lawyers can make enemies.
You could try visiting your local courthouse (most proceedings are open to the public) and watch the lawyers perform; see if any of them flip your switch.
