Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Battery in Hospital

I was a patient in a hospital and my boyfriend came to visit me. I had been hospitalized for 5 days and on the 6th day we got into a disagreement. Well, insults were being thrown and emotions got heated. It then escaladed to a level where it shouldnt have went. I got highly upset so i started to push on him to get out of my room. When he wouldnt bulge, I continued to push him. Well he then proceeded to punch me in my face. I later started bleeding from my ear, and after CAT scans, it was stated that the punch was a direct hit to my sinuses. My question is, even if I were not to press charges, would the state/doctor do so because of where the incident occured? Thanks in advance.

Re: Battery in Hospital

It is possible that the hospital will inform the authorities. The district attorney has the discretion to bring a charge where he or she believes a crime has been committed. Even where the victim does not want to press charges, the district attorney can charge an individual. Contact our office directly if you would like to discuss representation.
