Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
bond hearings
a 19 year old was arrested last monday in georgia for forgery (writing checks totaling $3,000 from a relative's checking account). we're not sure if he had a bond hearing. he says when he went to the ''hearing'' (no representation), he was asked if he had anything to say. He said he simply asked how he would go about getting a bond and was told they would let him know. when we arrived after the hearing, we were told that he said he was going to Florida...bond denied. Is that enough to deny bond? He still hasn't been appointed an attorney (public defender). Is that right?

Re: bond hearings
Yes, bond can be denied if a defendant poses a flight risk.
