Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

My brother was arrested for theft of services over a dispute with a cab driver over $15. I called the court and he has a bond ammount set of $870 but they said his court date was 60 days away. They said he would be held in the county jail until then if he didnt make the bond. Does that mean he will not be arraigned for 60 days or was has that already been done? I am from up north and usually after 3 days they will release you if its such a small amount. Is there something to the story I am missing or does GA just run there ship like this?

Thanks

D

No one here knows the facts to answer you, but he should get a lawyer, and with such a small bond, if you are concerned about him, you might want to post bond for him.

Who is the "they"? I know that his first court date after thirty (30) days (prelim. scheduled within 15 days) is his arraignment date. So, I suspect if the "they" are informed, and you heard or understood the "they" correctly, then the 60 day date, which is probably an approximation is correct. I'm curious: Where up north are you from? I am originally from metro new York, and the only question that anyone would post is can we resolve the case sooner, or get the bond lowered. Curiously, you asked neither one of those questions. See website for real answers: www.lawrencelewispc.com.
