Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

I have a charge of possesion of marijuana with intent to distribute...but i didn't have any in my possession and me 7 others went to jail. There were five in a half pounds of marijuana and someone claimed 5 the other half was not claimed. The place where I was arrested I didn't stay, I didn't know any of the drugs was there neither I was visiting a friend. Also, this is my first time getting in any trouble. I don't have any money to give to a lawyer since losing my state job due to them publicly putting my name into the paper. I was wondering if I should get a lawyer or a public defender.

Should you get a lawyer, who will charge about $ 5,000, for the felony that carries a possible penalty of ten years in prison when you don't have any money? Is that a question? If you don't have any money, you don't have any choice. You will either take the public defender or you will defend yourself. Good luck.

A public defender IS a lawyer.

You are facing probably ten years in jail and a huge fine and a felony for life.

Nothing is more important in your life right now. You either find the money to hire counsel or you ask for a public defender.
