Check Given Was Stolen
My son recieved a check from a friend over seas for the sum of 251,000 dollars and he deposited it into his bank acount. The check turned out to be stolen and he was detained for check fraud. Since he had no knowledge of check being stolen how can he be held responsible?

He is subject to prosecution if he knew or should have known the source of those funds. He bears a certain amount of responsibility for making sure the transfer was legitimate. If he failed to take due care in knowing the legitimacy of the source or if he knew the scheme, he could be an accomplice to the crime.
