Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
Coercian, Partial guilt, however not all accused of.
Thank You., My son worked at a local drug store where he admitted to petty theft, For example, as stated by him to co. reps., a (1) coke a day, and sometimes a bag of chips. This was wrong even in his eyes, however a manager person from which he worked with allowed this action to be condoned, setting a dangerous presidence. Two co. reps Questioned him in private with no personal representation of his own. They told him that they like to keep things like this ''quiet'' and since he was graduating the following day, it would be best for him, as otherwise they would have him arrested at his graduation. He was, I feel, coerced into a promissory note of about $240.00 and ongoing legal fees of around 550. to $700.00. And before I forget he is 17 years old. Is it legal for him to sign legal documents such as a promossory note? The 240.00 is supposedly for all the weeks he has worked for the co. at a rate of 20.00 per week. the balance is legal fees.
Thank You for all you can do.

Your son ought to consider carefully what it is they are requiring of him. He should be represented if it is at all possible for him to be. If not, I would recommend that he have one of his parents with him before he sign anything.
If he has already signed the documents, I believe there is an issue of whether it can be enforced because his age.
