Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
Court appointed lawyers
if youre appointed a court appointed lawyer without asking for one...are you required to pay for that attorney. My friend went to court..had an attorney handed to him...and now he went to paying off his probation fees..and the proabtioner handed him a bill for nearly 500 dolars for the lawyer. Is this legal?

Yes this is legal. As a part of the sentence, the Judge may require that the defendant pay for the expenses associated with the case which can include the expenses incurred as a result of appointing a public defender to represent the defendant.
