Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
Im going to court soon on a felony charge (theft by taking). What happen was I was working at a department store adding money to gift cards. When being asked about the situation, I told the lost prevention agent it may have been $800. He was like "are you sure it wasn't more because we have you on camera" so i said maybe $1,000 but not more than that. Well come to find out anything over $1,000 is considered felony so I felt I may have been set up. However, I returned $750 worth of merchandise back before I was detained. Im going to have a public defender, but this is my first felony. Is there any way I can avoid jail time in this case?
