Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

My daughter's father was arrested in Trenton, Georgia over six months ago and is incarcerated at the Dade County Detention Facility awaiting a trial date. He was travelling in a car with two other men when the police allegedly found drugs in the car. They are being charged with Possession and trafficking. One of the men that were in the car apparently signed a statement that the drugs were theirs and my daughters father as well as the 3rd men did not know anything about them.

My question is is it normal for court proceedings to take so long especially if one of the accused persons has admitted to the drugs being their's? Why is it taking so long for them to go to court?
