Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
Can a defendent be retried if he is declared innocent by the court, however walks out on the front steps and declares that he actually did the crime. Would he be safe because of the Double Jeopardy? Or what?

He would be stupid, but probably safe from being tried for the SAME crime again.

Mr. Cook is probably right, but not necessarily. To give one example: if the man was acquitted in state court he could still be tried in federal court, if the underlying conduct violated both state and federal laws and if the applicable limitations period had not expired.
