Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

E-mail Passwords

My wife and I are about to go through a divorce. We've been separated for months and living apart for months. During our marriage, my wife would often give me her password and ask that I check her e-mail for her. So, she knew that I had her password. After we separated, I suspected that she was cheating. So, I logged into her e-mail on occasion and found some damning e-mails. I want to let her know that I know of these e-mails. My question is, is what I did illegal (in light of the fact that she gave me her password)? I realize that these e-mails may be inadmissible in court, and that's okay. I just want her to know that I've seen those e-mails. Thanks.

Re: E-mail Passwords

My suggestion to you would be to hire a private investigator to find any relevent information for you to use during court proceedings. Your knowledge of her emails may only backfire on you if you chose to try and use them.(if you were allowed to use them, which is if-y). This is considered ease dropping and can only make you look bad. If you are only asking if you should let her know that you are aware, that is totally up to you but not recommended. I would be happy to speak with you further if you wish.
