Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

I was at function with soon to be ex daughter in law. It has been a nasty divorce and a lot of tension between us tonight I was sitting behind her and said to her I couldn't believe she came to night. She quickly turned in her seat and shoved her phone in my face to record. I reached to take the phone from her and she scratched my hand. She said she was calling the police I said fine and left the room to sit outside until my son and children came out from function. The police showed up took our statements and said either we both go to jail or agree to stay away. We agreed to stay away. He also said that we could file charges against each other. My question is was this self defense on my part. And I believe since she is so evil that she will file charges against me should I file charges against her

By foolishly posting the level of detail you did in a public post on the internet, you have created a problem (her lawyer, and she, can easily now find your post via Google, as can police and prosecutors) for you (and your son). Using inflammatory language (calling her "evil" online) and indicating your reason to consider charges is more whether she will pursue them, you guaranteed that it would be an awful idea for you to pursue charges. You will hate hearing this, but having spent 36+ years as a divorce lawyer, the parents of the parties consistently are amongst my client's biggest problems. In the future rethink (1) contact with the mother of your grandchildren until you can refrain from using words like "evil" in public posts, and (2) what you say about the case. The divorce will be less nasty and easier to resolve. It's too late to fix your post, which is worse than the incident you posted about. But be cautious, because the next time the police see the two of you together they probably will arrest you and not warn you again.

You were silent on what the function was. I assume some play or something in an auditorium. And the only seat was the one behind her? IS that right? Now you want to know IF it is self-defense. IF the grandparents do not know how to act, there is absolutely no hope for the grandchildren
