Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Hi. I am graduating with my MBA in May. I received a speeding ticket last summer(Going 61 in 40) it was 4th of July and I paid the ticket last year around September/October. The ticket's been paid and I didnt go to court. When I am applying for jobs, it asks on applications whether I did commit a felony/misdemeanor. Since this is paid for, would I consider this a misdemeanor and need to disclose this information? It was my first ever ticket and I want to do the right thing.

The only question an employer is legally allowed to ask is: "have you been convicted of a felony?". You are not obligated to answer anything beyond that. However, if your employer thinks you are lying to him, you will probably lose out on the job. A speeding ticket is a minor traffic violation and is considered a misdemeanor. If that is all you have, it's probably better to just disclose it.

Own up to it. They will do a records check anyway and you don't want to be caught lying.
