Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

My husband was just charged with cruelty to children, first degree in Cobb Cty GA for allegedly spanking my 13 year old son, his stepson, and leaving bruises. He didn't mean to bruise, but he's been charged and he is still in jail. We have children together - and really hope he can get a lesser charge or get dropped - even if we have to separate as a married couple and do supervised visits with the children we have together. He is willing to go to counseling or do whatever is necessary to help his case. He has not had any criminal charges in the past 10 years and has a reputation for great character now. However, he served time before 10-15 years ago - not related to children. I just want the charges reduced or dropped so he doesn't have to go to jail. We have a two year old and I'm 6 months pregnant.

If you want to help him, there is one thing that you should have already done, and do it in the morning - hire him legal counsel. That makes all the difference in the world and should have already happened.
