Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
My husband was sentenced to a life without parole for a murder charge in 1993. He did not participate in the murder but he was there when it happened. He was 17 years old and the victims family even testified that my husband did not particpate but he didnt stop it either. again he was 17 and he brought the young man that did do the murder to the said residence where the murder occurred. my husband along with the victims wife walked into the scene after the murder occurred. again he did not participate and he had no idea what was to happen when he brought that young man that my husband had met for the first time that very night at a party . the guy asked him for a ride and my husband took him to the address where the young man asked him to take him. the attorney that represented him (state apponinted) refused to put in for a appeal. we also found out at election time that the attorney that represented my husband also gave the prosecuting DA a large amount of money to help in his reelection the same month that he was trying my husband for murder. The money was given during the same time that my husband was tried by this DA. I have also been told that georgia at the time did not have " a life without parole" conviction. This truly is a innocent man seving a life without sentence, Where do i start on helping him? We have one sentence vacated and thrown out. Can something be done about the attorney refusing to send him his transcript and refusing to put in for an appeal. I knew my husband before the conviction, he had no priors. he was in the process of looking into the military when this all happened. Can someone please help me and tell me where to start in getting my husband home.
