Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

Loss Prevention Accusations

My 21 year old was accused by her employer late Friday stating she voided an item over a month ago costing $240 and let the man walk out of the store with it (the man was a complete stranger). States it is on video showing she went to get the item voided. She was escorted out with handcuffs, in front of customers and coworkers, and taken to the police precinct where she was interrogated by an investigator. She was let go because he said it was a weekend and said if charges are filed, she will be called back and booked on Monday. We hope to have a lawyer before they call her back in.

While working at that job, she received two patch awards for Great Customer Service and was working hard to get the third one. She also was praised by customers and coworkers on her hard work and willingness to help other employees as well as customers. After all of this is over with and she is cleared, can she get her ex-employer to annouce that they've made a mistake so that she can regain her reputation as an honest and hard working employee? She is feeling very depressed right now wondering how can she clear her name and prove that she do not lie, cheat or steal.

Re: Loss Prevention Accusations

What you describe are two seperate issues. First and most important, she needs to defend any criminal accusations that might arise from this situation. The charges could range from relatively minor to fairly substantial depending on what evidence exists and whether this was deemed to be an isolated incident. Second, after the former is resolved, options can be examined to determine what, if any, available recourse your daughter has with regard to her employer and clearing her reputation.

A lot of information is important in order to properly evaluate your daughter's case. Please feel free to contact me to discuss matters.

Also please note the information above is solely for general educational purposes and no attorney-client relationship exists.
