Manufacturing of methamphetimines

A friend of mine was arrested in picken''s county,Georgia on manufacruring of meth.He was arrested last Friday,June 18th,2004.he was not charged with the crime until Sunday June 20th.On Monday the Magistrate went to the jail to see him and he was not given the right to a public defender.He is unemployed right now and has no income coming in at all.My question is what can I do to get my friend at least a public defender so we can try to at least get a bond set for him.The next court date is not until October the 4th.I have spent hours and days calling the jail the court house,district attorney''s office and no one will give me any answers.If you could please help me get some kind of answer''s so I can tell my friends wife and chilren something.thank you

In most jurisdictions, a person in jail without a lawyer may make a request to the jailer to have someone from the public defenders office get with him.

You may also call the public defenders office directly.

I would recommend that your friend's family see if they can hire private counsel, however, for the simple reason that public defenders are extremely overworked and are not likely to be able to get on the case immediately.
