Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

The other night my boyfriend and I got into a fight and he held me down and wouldn't get off of me so I threw his phone and broke it. Then he got back on top of me and once again wouldn't let me go. Whenever he finally let me go I called my mom and she called the cops because I had marks on me. The cops came and we both went to jail. I was charged for throwing and breaking his phone and he was charged for false imprisonment. I got out of jail the next day but he had no bond of course. He went and talked with the judge today and they denied him bond. I want to see about getting the charge dropped. Any advice please? ? This is his first offence.

Please rethink your plans! You are with an abuser. Abusers do NOT stop. It has been proven that each time you back down, the abuse gets worse. The next time you may land in the hospital. Someday you may die. Be afraid. But be strong.

Start by talking to mental health counselors. You will find referrals from the prosecutor and local battered women's groups. Find out why you think so little of yourself that you would let someone violate you.

You deserve better. You deserve love. You deserve someone who respects you.

(I should add that you cannot drop charges. And additionally, you need a lawyer to deal with yours).

Good luck!

It won't stop, and you are risking your health and life to protect an abuser. The best way to absolutely guaranty it will happen again is to try to get him out of it this time. All that does is give him a permission slip to continue. By the time he is out of jail, you need to be completely out of his life. If you don't believe us, visit that shelter and ask what happened when they begged for the charges to be dropped because it was only his first offense (at least, first time getting caught). All of them have that story. Take control of yourself and your future.

YOu cannot drop the charges. The state prosecutor is the party in the case, you are only a witness. So, now the main thing you can do is retain an attorney to assist him. See website for info on retaining the right attorney: www.lawrencelewispc.com Good luck.
