Yes. As I am sure you are aware you can plea whatever you choose to the charges against you, namely: not guilty, guilty, and nolo.
There are a number of things you should consider before making any plea and or accepting a plea deal. From you question, it appears that the prosecutor has not offered you a plea deal yet. However if they do, you obviously want to make sure that you are getting the best deal possible. This is where lawyers benefit clients...using their knowledge of your criminal background, the applicable penalties for the crime charged, the potential for lasting consequences to you as a result of making the plea, e.g. social, economic, and their contacts within the prosecutor's office, lawyers are in a prime position to advise you whether your decision to plea/accept a plea deal is a good one.
Before you make any immediate decisions regarding your case, consult a lawyer, even if it is only an initial consultation. The benefit to you may be significant.
It may help (and in other ways hurt), but there may be other better options, and you need to get counsel.
Youcan use a nolo plea, only if the judge accepts a nolo plea (it is totally up to the judge). There are better options than a nolo plea. Just to be clear: A nolo plea is a conviction, and will suspend your driver's license. Yes, even if the marijuana had nothing to do with the car. I suggest you sit down with a criminal attorney.
