Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
First Offender Act
My child (17) was arrested in Doughtery County on 3 felony drug charges. His court appointed attorney said he will probably get First Offender Treatment. What exactly is this?

Re: First Offender Act
The first offender act is designed to keep your record clean. When you plea under first offender, you are usually given a fine and probation, and if you remain clean while under probation, the charge stays off of your criminal record. If you have another charge, fail a drug test or fail to pay the fines, your first offender status can be revoked and the charge will stay on your record.
