Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia
I plead guilty to a charge in 2008, and since have been on probation. I was sentenced to seven years probation, but I heard there is a way to change my plea and have my sentence reduced. I have not caught any new charges since. I am wondering what are the steps that I should take to begin this process if it is possible. I have paid all fines, as well as completed everything else that the court ordered.
Is there a way to change my plea to first offenders (so i get back all of my rights) as well as have my sentence reduced or probation terminated?
The case is in Douglas County, Georgia

Once you have entered a plea, been sentenced and let the time to appeal elapse, there are no
"do-overs." So unless there was a significant error in the plea from a legal basis, allowing extraordinary relief, you don't get to redo the case.
You will not be re-sentenced as a 1st offender three years after the case is over. I suspect that the judge will not reduce a 7 year probation to three. However, you can retain an attorney and have the attorney present compelling evidence of why you cannot remain on probation. However, the hardship should be good. See website: www.lawrencelewispc.com
